Let’s be honest — most health and fitness advice acts like we’re all the same. “Just get up earlier.” “Stick to the plan.” “Go hard or go home.” Sound familiar?

But if you’ve ever wondered why some people love smashing out a 6am bootcamp while others are still trying to find their left sock, it’s not just laziness or willpower — it’s personality.

So, what actually is personality?

In simple terms, personality is the way you tend to think, feel and behave. It’s your natural style — the stuff you do without even thinking. Like how you deal with change, how much energy you bring to things, whether you love a chat or avoid people entirely, or if planning your meals for the week makes you feel calm or claustrophobic.

We all have these patterns. And while they can flex a bit over time, they’re generally pretty stable. That’s why trying to copy someone else’s routine can feel like trying to wear their shoes. You might squeeze in, but it doesn’t mean it fits.

Personality & health: what’s the link?

Here’s the bit most people miss: your personality massively shapes how you approach your health and fitness — from what motivates you, to how you build habits, to what completely derails you.

For example:

  • If you’re naturally independent and like doing things your way, a rigid 12-week plan might feel like a prison sentence.

  • If you’re high energy and love a crowd, solo gym sessions might feel dull and pointless.

  • If you’re sensitive to stress, pushing yourself harder might backfire and leave you burned out.

And the real kicker? Most advice out there ignores all of this. It just assumes you’ll bend yourself into whatever shape the plan needs. But what if you flipped it — and built a plan that bends around you instead?

This is where it gets good…

Over the next few blogs, we’re going to look at:

  • Why motivation isn’t just about “trying harder”

  • How your personality affects the way you train, eat, rest and recover

  • Practical tips for building a fitness approach that actually suits you

We’ll bring in a bit of science (nothing too heavy), some real talk, and some dead handy tools to help you figure out your own style — and stop forcing yourself to follow someone else’s.

Because your health journey doesn’t need to look like theirs. It just needs to work for you.
